This painting depicts Secretariat winning the Kentucky derby on the 5th of May, 1973.

It was Secretariat’s first jewelry of Triple Crown.

As for this artwork, it is my first painting of Secretariat.

Well, this artwork is also the first Chinese ink painting of Secretariat in the world!

This book was a last-stock book displayed at the bookshelf of a book store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In lately 2011(I couldn’t remember the actual date), Secretariat appeared to me in a book which is entitled as ‘Secretariat’ written by Raymond G. Woolfe Jr. This book was a last-stock book displayed at the bookshelf of a book store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I just couldn’t wait to read the book. I actually finished reading the book in 3 days’ time after purchasing the book home.

I thought this would be just one of my reading pastimes as usual. As a matter of fact, it didn’t go that way. I never expected that I actually did notes and summary for the book after reading the contents of the book. I couldn’t tell why but I could feel that Secretariat is so close with me.

In the book, I discovered that Secretariat and I were actually born in 1970 and my birthdate (June, 9) was the date he won the Triple Crown by 31 lengths. In fact until today, I have been suspecting that I actually happened to buy the book in October, 2011… (Secretariat deceased on the 4th of October 1989).

I started to study Secretariat seriously. The more I studied Secretariat, the more I was attracted by him.

A week later, I started to find more about Secretariat online. I started to study Secretariat seriously. The more I studied Secretariat, the more I was attracted by him. Gradually I became aware that it wasn’t just a book, it was a holy call from the spirit of Secretariat that assigned me to keep his legacy alive through the Secretariat paintings of mine. I did many sketches of Secretariat. However, I did not paint him until I felt I was ready for my preparation in early 2012.

I have bought two original DVDs of Secretariat movie for my collection. I replay the movie very often. The movie actually has given me a deeper understanding about Secretariat and its super team, especially Penny Chenery, the owner of Secretariat and the horse trainer, Lucien Laurin.

Finally on the 30th of March 2012, my first Secretariat painting was born in conjunction with the birth date of Secretariat. This painting was later featured in The Star, the most popular newspapers in Malaysia in 2014 in conjunction with the year of The Horse.

This painting is not only my first Secretariat painting but also the most significant artwork for my art journey of recreating the spirit of Secretariat. In the other words, this painting is the first sound from the ‘trumpet’!

If I am not mistaken, this is also the world’s first painting that features the low angle of Secretariat with a comprehensive scene of the Kentucky Derby racecourse.
